Sarah McGahon is unique in that she is the only milliner who has 7 ½ Design and Millinery Training. She attended the Grafton Academy night courses and then conducted an apprenticeship with Jacinta Fahy. After her apprenticeship she partook in a Degree in Textile Design from NCAD. During one of her summers she won an internship to work with Stephen Jones in London, where she was lucky enough to work with Kylie Minogue and Mick Jagger amongst others. Sarah then did a post-grad in Millinery in Kensington and Chelsea College, she has been out on her own designing since summer 2009. Her products range from fantastical show pieces to beautifully crafted wedding headpieces, and race day or event ware. In addition to exclusive appointments at her studio, her work is available for purchase from her collections at The Goddess Room Greystones, Covet at Powerscourt Townhouse, Dirty Fabulous at Wicklow Street. In addition to her millinery training, she has just completed a degree in Entrepreneurship through the IT in Tallaght. and intends to streamline her business, branding it and starting a fashion accessories international brand.
Each December Sarah comes up with a theme or starting point; for my summer collection 2011 it was stained glass windows, the previous summer it was fairgrounds and circus. In 2009, she produced a flower collection. This December she is working on using calligraphy fonts and muslin monsters as her starting point.
